Legal Aid

Blaxland Mawson & Rose are the only firm of solicitors in the Cooma region that participate in the Legal Aid Duty Solicitor Scheme. This means we can represent you at Court, without you having to pay anything for our services. We regularly represent those people who qualify for Legal Aid’s assistance, at both the Cooma and Bombala Local Courts.

Our Criminal Law Solicitor, Emma Schlachter is also a member of the Legal Aid Criminal Law panel, and can represent you at a hearing in the Local Court, or at more serious District Court trials/sentencing. If you qualify for Legal Aid, you won’t have to pay any more than a maximum of $75.00 (Legal Aid client contribution fee) for our advice and representation.

Generally, if you have been charged with a criminal offence (other than a minor traffic offence) and are in receipt of a Centrelink benefit, you will qualify for Legal Aid. Should you require further information on the Duty Solicitor Scheme, or need to know if you qualify for Legal Aid, please don’t hesitate to contact our office.

Blaxland Mawson & Rose are also members of the Legal Aid- Family Law panel, and can represent you in relation to a Family Law matter in the Local, District, Family and Federal Magistrate’s Courts on a legal aid basis. As before, if you qualify for Legal Aid, our firm can represent you without you having to pay any more than a client contribution (usually only $90.00).

If you think you might qualify for Legal Aid- or even if you would just like some more information about our Legal Aid assisted services- please, don’t hesitate to call our office.

One of our friendly staff or solicitors will be happy to talk you through the process. It costs nothing to find out!
